Beating the Odds School List Released November of 2012
The Beating the Odds School list was finally released. All 3000+ school buildings in Michigan are put into groups of 30 similar schools and ranked according to academic achievement on the MEAP and MME tests. The goal is to group buildings according to size, grade levels served, economic/racial diversity, and percentage of special education students. Within each cohort of 30 schools building in the group is designated at Beating the Odds.
A summary of the three buildings in Saugatuck:
Douglas Elementary - #1 in cohort group and designated as Beating the Odds
Saugatuck Middle School - #1 in cohort group and designated as Beating the Odds
Saugatuck High School - #2 in cohort group
According to the report our buildings outperformed their predicted percentil on the top to bottom list as follows:
DES - 61% predicted - 91% actual
SMS - 64% predicted - 91% actual
SHS - 62% predicted - 84% actual
We have scoured all the different lists and I can't find another district in Michigan that performed as high at all levels as we did in Saugatuck. These results say a great deal about our entire staff, students, parents and community - it certainly is a group effort. It is amazing what local control, local decisions, and local support can do to impact the future of our community.
